Lançado em 16 de setembro de 1985, emplacou hits como “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)”, “Cloudbusting”, “The Big Sky” e a faixa-título. O lado B do vinil, intitulado “The Ninth Wave” (“A Nona Onda”), forma uma suíte conceitual sobre uma mulher à deriva e sozinha no mar à noite.

O trabalho chegou ao topo da parada britânica, onde vendeu mais de 1 milhão de cópias – marca bastante expressiva para os padrões da indústria local. Ainda ganhou disco de platina no Canadá e Alemanha, além de ouro na França e Países Baixos.
